The 2015 World of Coffee event is upon us! This annual bacchanalia of caffeination is hosted by the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe, and includes a gigantic trade show, multiple international coffee competitions, and this year, the debut of a new coffee symposium event. It all happens this week in Gothenburg, Sweden, and we’ll be taking you there all week long with coverage happening across the Sprudge Media Network.
Coffee competitions are a huge focus for how we cover these events, with much of our coverage in the coming week happening on our global coffee competition site, SprudgeLive. WOC Gothenburg provides no fewer than five major international coffee competitions to follow all week long. The events we’re covering in Gothenburg include the following:
World Cup Tasters Championship, an event that “awards the professional coffee cupper who demonstrates speed, skill, and accuracy in distinguishing the taste differences in specialty coffees.”
World Brewers Cup, a competition that “highlights the craft of filter coffee brewing by hand, promoting manual coffee brewing and service excellence.”
World Latte Art Championship, a competition that “highlights artistic expression in a competition platform that challenges the barista in an on-demand performance.”
World Coffee In Good Spirits Championship, an event that “promotes innovative beverage recipes that showcase coffee and spirits in a competition format.”
World Coffee Roasting Championship, a multi-part event in which “competitors are evaluated on their performance evaluating the quality of green coffee (coffee grading), developing a roasting profile that best accentuates the desirable characteristics of that coffee, and on the ultimate cup quality of coffees roasted.”
Each of these events will play out throughout the week, with new champions being announced on the afternoon of Thursday, June 18th. All of our competition coverage this season has been underwritten in generous partnership with Square, a global leader in digital payment systems, and Urnex Brands, makers of the world’s finest coffee cleaning products.
Sprudge #Squad at WOC Gothenburg includes site co-founders Zachary Carlsen and Jordan Michelman, along with staff writers Zac Cadwalader (Texas), Eileen P. Kenny (‘Straya), and Anna Brones (Paris), plus our NYC staff writer and Associate Editor Liz Clayton. In addition to these competitions, we’ll be attending and covering the inaugural Re:co Symposium, as well as checking out exciting stuff on the World of Coffee trade show floor. To follow coverage all week long join us on Twitter—@Sprudge and @SprudgeLive—and follow us on Instagram and Facebook for lively visuals and big moments from Gothenburg.
All our WOC Gothenburg, Re:Co Symposium and coffee competition coverage is produced in partnership with World Coffee Events, and with the gracious support of the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe.
