Our Build-Outs of Summer series rolls on with a 2,600-square-foot cafe in Artesia, California from the folks who brought you Candle Light Bakery. They’re calling it Bakers & Baristas, and beginning this month (July 2015), it will be serving up in-house baked pastries and desserts alongside a full brunch program, adult beverages including craft beer and wine, and a late-night tapas-style bar menu.
And the coffee! The group will be working with Four Barrel and De La Paz on all kinds of cool gear. Let’s learn more.
As told to Sprudge by Eric Quan.
For those who aren’t familiar, will you tell us about your company?
We are the same founders as Candle Light Bakery. Our increasing interest in craft items led us to pursue a passion project. We wanted to create an environment where we could share everything we love.
Can you tell us a bit about the new space?
Bakers & Baristas will be a cafe serving coffee, weekend brunch, desserts, pastries, craft beer, wine, and a small bar menu. Our bread, croissants, desserts, and food will all be prepared from scratch in house.
What’s your approach to coffee?
Our approach to coffee will be approachable yet innovative. Our menu will consist of a standard espresso menu and a few flavored lattes with house-made sauces. We will be working exclusively with Four Barrel and De La Paz, but will feature other roasters from time to time.
Any machines, coffees, special equipment lined up?
3-group Linea PB espresso machine, Mazzer Robur and Mahlkonig EK43 grinders, Oji Kyoto drip towers, siphons, and Kalita Waves.
What’s your hopeful target opening date/month?
Target opening date is July 2015.
Are you working with craftspeople, architects, and/or creatives that you’d like to mention?
We are working with PSSDC to build out the space. These guys are true craftsmen. All furniture and lighting fixtures are all custom made in their warehouse in the Art’s District.
