Holy moly. The Chemex folks have pulled a Beyoncé and dropped a surprise coffee brewer OUT OF NOWHERE. This new machine is dubbed “The Ottomatic”, and features an open air high-design look and feel similar to a couple of other recent home brewers: the Scandinavian Wilfa brewer and the Portland-based Ratio brewer. According to the official Chemex website, they are taking pre-orders only and will begin shipping in January.
Introducing, ladies and gentlemen, the “Greedy Cup” Sprayhead Technology:
More from Chemex’s website, which is literally the only place you learn about this thing, because they didn’t even do a press release:
• Pre-Infusion
• Contact time of water to coffee
• Heating water to the Specialty Coffee Industry target temp (197.6F-204.8F)
• Hot Plate which holds the brewed coffee at the International Coffee Organizations recommended temp of 176F-185F
This is not Chemex’s first foray in the autobrew world:
Those auto Chemex machines are glorious garage sale rarities, and you can find them for like $10 if you’re lucky. The all-new Ottomatic is $350.
