We love coffee events! Indeed, we love them so much that we cover all manner of coffee events as they happen, all around the planet, often in exhausting detail. But what if there was a coffee event that resolutely, most certainly, was not at all like others? An event that contained world firsts, world champions, incredible food & music, and fascinating people from across the globe?
You’re looking for Cherry, my friend.
Cherry is a one-of-a-kind multidisciplinary coffee event taking place on April 15th, 2015 in Calgary, Alberta and presented by our partners at Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters. For the first time ever in Canada, the team at Phil & Seb will be hosting a live processing of coffee fruit, providing an inside look at how the world’s best coffee producers make decisions at origin that affect the finished product. Overseeing the processing is revered Costa Rican producer Enrique Navarro Jr., a 2014 Cup of Excellence winner and producer-partner of Phil & Sebastian.
Enrique Navarro Jr. will be joined at this event by Hidenori Izaki, 2014 World Barista Champion and representative of Japan’s lauded Maruyama Coffee. Mr. Izaki used Mr. Navarro’s coffee to win the world last year, and at Cherry, he’ll present his 2014 WBC winning routine alongside a special drinks service for a few lucky guests.
As if that weren’t enough, the evening will feature a curated beer and wine selection from Toolshed Brewing and Highlander Wine and Spirits, food by Sidewalk Citizen and Charbar, plus coffee tasting stations presenting multiple processes of Enrique Navarro’s coffee, roasted by Phil & Sebastian, all set to a soundtrack by the team at Kinfolk DJs.
This entire event is free, and all proceeds go to benefit CAWST, a Calgary-based charity that provides water, sanitation and hygiene to the developing world. Throughout the evening there will be raffles, door prizes, live auctions and rare opportunities. Where else can you give money to a great cause and have Hidenori Izaki make you a killer cappuccino?
Cherry happens on April 15th at The HQ YYC, a new Calgary event space that is by day home to the offices of Branded Magazine. RSVP now via Phil & Sebastian for this 200-person capacity event, which has been made possible in part Phil & Sebastian’s origin partners at Exclusive Coffees in Costa Rica.
