Coffee loves beer: this much we know. But love is a two-way street, and it turns out this relationship has quite a future, because it turns out beer loves coffee, too. We’re living in a golden ale age of brewery and roaster collaborations, yielding some truly delicious results, and it’s happening in all corners of the world. We look forward to telling many more of these stories in the coming months and years across the Sprudge Media Network.
One such corner of the world is Portland, Oregon, where this here network of websites is based. It’s also home to Stumptown Coffee Roasters, our longtime partners who got their start in one of the city’s famed beer halls, the Horse Brass. It was the spring of 1999, and “I was short on funds,” Stumptown founder Duane Sorenson told the Willamette Week earlier this year. “[Horse Brass owner] Don Younger gave me a small loan. In one of the dark corners of the Horse Brass, he gave me some dough and asked me to pass along that favor to someone else, which I have.“
So in what is perhaps a festival two decades in the making, we’re thrilled to announce today a new event: Coffee Beer, a celebration of coffee beers featuring Stumptown collaborations with many of the city’s top breweries. The event will take place on Saturday, September 16th at The Woodsman Tavern—Sorenson’s elevated PNW cuisine destination—with much more information to come, including ticketing, RSVP, satellite events and tap takeovers across town, brewery spotlight features here on Sprudge, and much more.
This is a “save the date” announcement—and that date again is Saturday, September 16th. We *can* however tell you more about some of the participating breweries, in a project overseen by Stumptown’s Head Brewer Brent Wolczynski and Marketing Events Director Mallory Pilcher. They include:
Breakside Brewery
Cascade Brewing
Commons Brewery
Base Camp
Gigantic Brewing Company
Crux Fermentation Project
Boneyard Beer
Elysian Brewing Company
Rogue
Ninkasi Brewing Company
And this, friends, is just a partial list, with more breweries to be announced as we get closer to the event.
We hope you can join us for the inaugural Coffee Beer event here in Portland, and look for more details on this and other events out soon. Thank you, and happy drinking!
