President Trump’s executive order barring all refugees as well as immigrants, dual citizens and green card holders of seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States has left a significant portion of the country reeling, and responsible parties in the coffee world are stepping up against it.  From everything including Starbucks plan to hire 10,000 refugees over the next five years to fundraisers like the one Sprudge is putting on this weekend (featuring over 145 cafes and counting across the country), many in the coffee industry feel compelled to be heard in opposition to these actions. And Department of Brewology is getting involved in the most Department of Brewologically appropriate way: with beautiful shirts and prints.

FILTER COFFEE / NOT PEOPLE is a brand new design from the DoB, made as a response to the recent immigration ban. Currently in pre-order, the proceeds from shirt sales will be donated to Refugee Services of Texas, an Austin-based non-profit that “works directly with refugees, providing transportation, translation services, legal services, cultural orientation, childcare services, living accommodations and more.”

Along with the shirt, the Department of Brewology created a poster version of the FILTER COFFEE / NOT PEOPLE design intended to hang inside shops as a way for them to show solidarity. Normally priced at $20, posters are being offered free of charge (minus shipping and handling) to any cafe that wants one.

If your coffee shop would like a poster, email deptofbrewology@gmail.com with “FCNP poster” in the subject line.

Shirts and posters can be pre-ordered through the Department of Brewology’s website, and will begin shipping out February 10th. For more information on the Refugee Services of Texas or to donate to them directly, visit their website here.
