First launched in 2013, Philadelphia’s singular Affogato Roadshow is back for a “five day, ten shop coffee & ice cream extravaganza” brought to you by Little Baby’s Ice Cream & a cabal of Philly coffee bars. The tour launched yesterday at ReAnimator Coffee Roasters in the Olde Kensington neighborhood.
The roadshow enlarges a multi-year partnership between Elixr Coffee and Little Baby’s, expanding the availability of the drink across the city for a handful of days in July. ReAnimator’s Matt Scottoline says serving an Affogato is “something we’ve always wanted to do, and this partnership with Little Baby’s lets us do it, and do it well.” Keeping ice cream constantly stocked just for the off chance of an affogato order isn’t exactly practical for most shops. Enter the confection connection.
Little Baby’s provided two flavors of ice cream for the drowned drink: vanilla cardamom and speculoos (more commonly known as cookie butter). I went for the classic vanilla with a spicy twist. ReAnimator’s espresso blend pulled nicely over the ice cream, the tart espresso cutting through the sweet nicely, with cardamom zest hinting throughout.
If you’re in or around Philadelphia this July, don’t miss one of these other dates on the roadshow—each day is hosted at multiple locations:
July 11th: Ultimo Coffee (1900 S 15th St) // The Monkey & The Elephant (2831 W Girard Ave)
July 13th: Peddler Coffee (2100 Spring St ) // Square One (249 S 13th St)
July 15th: Shot Tower Coffee (542 Christian St ) // High Point Cafe (602 Carpenter Lane)
July 17th: Elixr Coffee (207 S Sydenham St ) // W/N W/N Coffee Bar (931 Spring Garden St)
