There’s a Russian takeover going down in New York City this weekend. And while this may be the sort of intro that would scare the bejeezus out of your grandparents, don’t worry it’s a good thing. Moscow’s Coffeemania is hosting three events over the course of two days as a means of hyping up a new restaurant project they are starting in Manhattan (and maybe looking to hire a few capable baristas, too).
The whole shebang kicks off with a Roasters Throwdown at 10:00am on Saturday, July 9th at the Loft at Irving Farm Coffee Roasters. There will be a talk on “Roasting and the Imapact of Brewing” followed by the “Blind Brewing: ‘Barista Choice’” Roasters Throwdown. I’m unclear as to what exactly a “Roasters Throwdown” entails, but remain very intrigued.
Then at 1:00pm at the same location, a “Design or Replicate” Latte Art Battle will be going down so you can show off your multi-tiered barista skills. Coffeemania will also be showing off their new Synesso MVP Hydra, for those looking to sate their techier fancies.
Finally, the weekend concludes with a Brewers Battle at 3:00pm on Sunday at Pulley Collective in Brooklyn. After a talk on how acids affect coffee, the “Smell or Taste” Brewers Battle will begin. Again, I’m unclear as to the format of this particular event, but I like to smell, I like to taste—this sounds like my kind of coffee party.
The events are free to attend and open to the public. There will be drinks, snacks, coffee, and yes, job opportunities, because Coffee Mania are looking to hire big in the NYC area. You can RSVP for one or all of the events by visiting Coffeemania’s Eventbrite page.
