Oslo is one of the world’s great coffee hubs. Attempting to list all of the cool goings-on in the capital of Norway would fill this entire article, leaving no room to talk about one cool going-on in particular. So let’s skip all that and get to the meat of the thing: the Kaffikaze Coffee Festival.
Organized by Kaffikaze—a creative agency responsible for the last three AeroPress competitions in Norway—the festival takes place at the Vulkan Arena on September 30th and is somehow the city’s first coffee festival. It comes in two parts: a daytime “Taste and learn” and a nighttime “Social and party.”
During the day, attendees will have access to tastings, classes, and lectures led by Talor Brown (Founder and roaster of Talor & Jørgen), Rory Rosenberg (Norwegian Barista Champion and co-founder of Oslo Cold Brew), and Odd-Steinar Tøllefsen (2015 World Brewers Cup Champion and co-owner of Supreme Roastworks), among others.
The nighttime event centers around the Norwegian AeroPress Championship, with head judge Tim Wendelboe. The winner will earn a free trip to compete in the World AeroPress Championship later this year is Seoul, South Korea. For those not competing, there will be coffee beer, coffee cocktails, and even coffee tattoos (what is it with tattoos at AeroPress competitions? I got a Chemex tattoo at the US AeroPress Championship in Atlanta last year. Is a weird trend happening?)
It will be a day filled with “hand brewed coffee, batch brewed coffee, iced coffee, cappuccinos, coffee soft ice, coffee beer, coffee cocktails, coffee gadgets, coffee plants, coffee competitions, and so much more.” Tickets for the Kaffikaze Coffee Festival range between KR180.00 and KR290.00 for daytime only and full day passes, respectively, and can be purchased here.
