Cold brew, cocktails, coffee, competition. These are the four C’s of cool in certain corners of the coffee cosmos. And a fifth C, Chattanooga, is bringing them all together under one roof. Tonight Velo Coffee Roasters is hosting the second annual Cold Brew H.U.S.T.L.E.
H.U.S.T.L.E. of course stands for “Hopeful Ultratenders Share Their Liquid Elixirs” and ultratenders of course means “a person for whom the preparation and enjoyment of craft beverages is uncategorically intersectional and rad.” But you probably already knew that.
Sponsored by the US Bartenders Guild and The Daily Ration, The Cold Brew H.U.S.T.L.E. pits 20 mixologists against one another in a battle of both boozeless and boozeful cold brew cocktail dominance. With requirements on minimum cold brew amount, type of alcohol used, and maximum number of ingredients (four for boozeless, six for boozeful), the cocktails are judged based on “creativity, economy, replicability, and taste. The creativity portion of the scoresheet includes the name of your drink, so write something snappy.”
According to Velo’s website:
Last year, Easy Bistro sous chef Ben Park took home the boozeful prize with a foie gras condensed milk and rye beverage, and it is told that he also took his shirt off for reasons that have since been lost in the annals of time. It’s gonna be that sort of party.
The whole shebang goes down tonight at 6:30 at the Velo Coffee inside Speed Deluxe. There will be food, beer, games, and prizes. And a lot of really wild cold brew cocktails. And maybe a shirtless dude.
