Have you ever seen a latte art throwdown? Yeah, but have you ever seen a latte art throwdown on… you know what, nevermind, because despite its name, this isn’t that sort of event. But this Thursday’s Hot Box Latte Art Throwdown at Visions Espresso in Seattle is still bringing the heat with some pretty serious prizes, including a Nuova Simonelli Oscar espresso machine.

The Oscar, which is the namesake “hot box” for this throwdown (because it’s a box, that is hot. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ), serves as the grand prize for this bracket style competition of milk pouring. But as if a $1,300 espresso machine wasn’t enough (it definitely is), the winner will also take home an additional $250. But second place doesn’t get left in the cold; they will be walking away with a Nuova Simonelli G60 espresso grinder AND $150 cash. Third prize only gets a measly $100, which would be a pretty good grand prize haul at a normal throwdown that wasn’t giving away espresso machines and grinders.

For the rest of the folks, from fourth place to just hanging out, Visions is serving up free food and beer for all. So it’s like everyone is a winner. Just some win a cold one and some win a “hot box.” Still, there is no losing.

Doors open for the Hot Bot Latte Art Throwdown at 6:30pm on Thursday, March 22nd, with the first pour to begin promptly at 7:30pm. This event is sure to fill up fast, so keep an eye on the Facebook event page for pre-registration information.
