Today, November 1st, is World Vegan Day! Now in its 25th year, World Vegan Day follows Vegetarian Month (October) with a celebration of those living the plant-based lifestyle. The benefits of veganism are many; a plant-based diet promotes weight loss, reduces the risk of heart disease by lowering cholesterol, lowers the chances of certain types of cancer, and helps manage diabetes by lowering A1C levels. And in first world countries—where most animal products are produced on massive, inhumane factory farms—there is an eco-component to going vegan. Even being a “weekday vegetarian” can have a significant impact on your effect on the world.
To celebrate a quarter-century of the global plant-based holiday, we’ve put together a little quiz to help you figure out which vegan coffee shop treat you are. Which poses the question: if you were a vegan muffin, would you eat yourself? I know I would. I’d smother myself in strawberry preserves. I’d be delicious.
